The Brock House Bed & Breakfast was built in 1906 by Huey E. Brock for his son Albert Brock. Mister Huey E. Brock built the first residence in New Brockton in 1871 in a heavily wooded area. He also built the first store in New Brockton to serve the settlers in nearby communities. In the next nine years, there were fourteen stores built by other settlers.
In 1888 a fire destroyed all the stores. This was a great loss to the early settlers who had to travel long distances for supplies. With the Brock family influence and support, the stores were all rebuilt.
The first post office was in Mr. Brock's store and a cane mill belonging to Mr. Brock was located on what is now Main Street, which is also Highway 84. Mr Brock's mule business was located between Main Street and the Brock House and was still standing in 1977 when the Driskells purchased the Brock house.
The Brock house was transformed into a bed and breakfast in 1999. Now it may be enjoyed by our guests.
If you wish to take an afternoon stroll, the Driskell's purchased a large portion of the Brock estate in 1988. This farmland is within walking distance of The Brock House. Guests can enjoy this property which has two streams running through it. In spring, wild honeysuckle and violets grow along these streams. Also wild animals such as deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbits, and many species of wild bird can be seen.
Guests can visit the only monument in the world glorifying a pest, the Boll Weevil. Also nearby is the U.S. Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker. There are numerous golf courses, antique shops, restaurants, and theatres in the general area.
We serve a full breakfast of choice each morning. Our guests may enjoy refreshments 24 hours a day and fresh flowers in their rooms. You may wish to curl up on the sofa and read or enjoy the large front porch.
With period antiques, fresh flowers and a wraparound porch... The Brock House can be your home away from home.
